The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, God Almighty. But what does he do? In particular what is the Spirit doing in the world and in believers today?
1. The Spirit is convicting the world (non-Christians) for not believing in Jesus (John 16).
2. The Spirt regenerates (gives new life to) a person in response to their faith (Titus 3).
3. The Spirit guarantees a believer’s salvation (Eph 1).
4. The Spirit indwells believers and so connects them to the very life and love of God (John 14 and 16).
5. The Spirit helps believers become holy. How exactly we don’t know. Certainly via trials and in response to faith and obedience, but the finer details of how are a mystery (Galatians 5).
6. The Spirit prays for believers (Romans 8)
7. The Spirit works through believers to bring blessing into the lives of others, helping others to become holy and grow in their faith (John 16, 1 Cor 3).
Also, let’s not forget that one of the greatest ministries of the Spirit was to give us the truth (not guide us into truth!). The Spirit gave us the Scriptures, the Bible, which reveals all the divine truth people need to live full, faithful and fruitful lives. Remember also that the Spirit has been involved in every work of God from the beginning. What an amazing God we have, “if God be for us, who can be against us” (Romans 8:31)
